Gamma Phi Centennial Era Histories
As you already know, to commemorate our Centennial, we are compiling the history of our Chapter. Individual "era" histories are being researched, written and compiled by several volunteers (or, in some cases, draftees). Several individuals have either volunteered or been "nominated" (sometimes perhaps without knowledge of their nomination) by their contemporaries to produce (or at least "delegate" to trusted brothers the responsibility to produce) these individual histories (including, but not necessarily limited to, Gamma Phi and University of Oklahoma awards, achievements and special recognitions and narrative overviews of the general "culture" and the memorable social events that marked their respective eras at the Beta House). To date, we have the following specific "eras" covered:
These individual "era" histories will be a treasure--for Chapter members of those particular years and their families, as well as for future generations of Gamma Phi members. These individual "era" histories will be preserved for posterity as a prominent and permanent feature of our Chapter's institutional history and will be enjoyed for as long as Gamma Phi Chapter lives on at our University.
For your own "era" to be remembered and celebrated, you must step up now and volunteer (or arrange for one or more volunteers from among your contemporaries) to begin the process of writing the history of your Beta years at O.U. To date, many have expressed interest in participating in this important project, but few have committed.
Wouldn't it be unfortunate for your "era" to be overlooked in the celebration of our Centennial and omitted from the compilation of our Chapter's history simply because of apathy (or the expectation that "someone else" will take care of it)? You can ensure that your "era" will be remembered always by committing to this project today.
Please circulate this message among your contemporaries and other Beta friends so that we don't overlook any prospective participants in this project.
